Rogers Cable (primarily Toronto, Ontario, Canada and area) introduces a digital TV channel with a constant loop of roasting chickens turning on a spit.
Rogers has teamed up with the Swiss Chalet fast food chain to launch the all-chicken channel on Feb. 28 (today-Monday) for digital TV subscribers as part of a major product placement deal.
The Rotisserie Channel will feature two rows of finger-licking good birds roasting in an open-flame oven, with crackling fire sound effects in the background.

Other TV Shows with their share of problems
By now, a lot of you have heard the producers of one of the top situation comedy on TV currently, CBS's Two and A Half Men, have officially shutdown production for the remainder of the season.
Already "on hiatus" due to lead Charlie Sheen's erratic behaviour and a recent stint in rehab...Sheen went on a rant earlier this week during an interview, verbally attacking the creator of Two and A Half Men amongst other targets. As a result, the decision has been made to shut the show down for the remainder of this season and possibly forever.
But the antics of Sheen is not the first time in the history of U.S. television where the behaviour or unforeseen circumstances of a series star has resulted in a halt in production of their respective shows
- The show, Grace Under Fire, a popular mid 90's sitcom, was shut down twice due to the erratic behaviour of series lead Brett Butler. The second shutdown was for good and the series never returned. The coincidence here is that Chuck Lorre was the executive producer of that show...he is also the producer and creator of Two and A Half Men and the target of Sheen's rant!
- After the a couple seasons of the sitcom Three's Company, blonde series lead Suzanne Somers held out for more money in contract negotiations. At first, the producers filmed segments of the show starring Somers separately from the rest of the cast. However later on, no resolution was reached on the money and Somers character was replaced
- The series 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, starring Three's Company's John Ritter had to shut down production temporarily during the initial season in 2003 when Ritter suddenly died. It took a month or so to get the series back on the air and it lasted another couple of seasons but the premise became very different than what had been intended
Will Two and A Half Men ever make it back on the air with new original episodes? Will they write Sheen's character out and carry on with the other actors or add a character? What will that do to the show? Lots of unanswered questions that are still up in the air for the time being!

Some Notable Facts About the Hosts of the Academy Awards Show
This Sunday (February 27) there is not only another edition of the world-famous DJ Joe D show on The Glow Radio (http://www.theglowradio.com/) starting at 10AM Eastern, but later in the evening is the 83rd annual Academy Award broadcast from Los Angeles.
This year's Oscar show will be hosted by two youthful but popular actors, James Franco, who is nominated for a best actor Oscar this year, and Anne Hathaway. Last year...the choice for hosts was geared toward an older demographic with Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.
Here are some quick facts about past Oscar show hosts you may find interesting.

Here are some quick facts about past Oscar show hosts you may find interesting.
- Bob Hope hosted the show the most times, mostly in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's for a total of 18 times
- Billy Crystal hosted the broadcast 8 times while Johnny Carson had this honour 5 times
- Although many are still trying to figure out the logic here, Jon Stewart of The Daily Show fame hosted the show twice despite not appealing to many the first he hosted.
- Not asked back for a second try at hosting...David Letterman, Chris Rock and Ellen DeGeneres amongst some others
- Whoopi Goldberg hosting duties in 1994 (one of four times) represented 2 firsts...the first time a women hosted the show and the first time an African-American was named host
- And then there were 5 years where the broadcast had no host at all (1948, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1989)

The State of the World on this Holiday Monday.
Hopefully today (February 21) is a holiday wherever you are in the world! It is here (Family Day)!
So I thought today I would share some "headlines" from a number of online sources attempting to jolt us back into reality after the weekend.
Since it's a long weekend here and in some other places...it may take a day longer for the effect of these stories to register...and then dissapear like most of these do:
Tens of thousands of people could drink themselves to death in the next two decades unless the British government tightens its control over the use of alcohol, experts said Monday.
Fitness magazine asked 2,400 women if they would sacrifice a full year of sex to be skinny -- and 51 percent said yes.
An analysis of FBI crime data shows that Orlando is the U.S. metropolitan area with the third highest risk of crime...it is tied with Birmingham, Ala....the five most dangerous U.S. metropolitan areas are listed in order as St,. Louis, Atlanta, Birmingham, Orlando and Detroit.
A pupil has been expelled after he and his friends took a snap of one of them putting their "dangly bits" in a teacher's mug ...the member of staff only discovered the sick stunt after the picture was posted on the internet.
(this one was from the U.K.)
California Governor Jerry Brown is getting serious about his state's $25 billion shortfall...in his latest push to close his state's staggering deficit, Brown has forbidden all state agencies from wasting tax dollars on freebie trinkets like hats and cups
Have a Happy Monday!

So it looks like Spring...
...here in Toronto today...the sun is shining and the temperature is way above the zero degree Celsius mark.
But gradually, it has been cooling down during the day...so much so that tonight we will be right back at the zero degree mark and below it over the next few days.
So much for spring!

Reporter having a Tough Time-Live On Air!
This is a bizzare video making its rounds on the Internet.
This is Serene Branson a reporter for KCBS, the CBS affiliate in Los Angeles. This was a live report she was doing after the Grammy Awards broadcast this past Sunday evening. For about 10 seconds, what viewers heard coming from her was complete jibberish...have a listen:
Over the next couple of days, all sorts of explanations were being reported as to what was happening with her during that 10 seconds. Most people believed she was drunk and slurring her words.
However, earlier today, it was explained she was probably suffering symptoms of a mild stroke while live on the air and basically just kept on going even though what she was actually saying was not what she thought she was saying.
She was checked out by paramedics on scene who did not find any signs of anything unusual. And in the last day or so, she did see a doctor but word on her condition has been tightly guarded. She does remain off air at this time.

Escape from Leafland!
Early last week, defenceman Francois Beauchemin was traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs back to the team he came over from a couple years back, the Anaheim Ducks
Word late today that off-season pickup from the Stanley Cup winning Chicago Black Hawks, Kris Versteeg was traded by the Leafs to Philadelphia for a couple of draft picks including a first rounder (can you say pick #25)!
So it begins...the escape from Leafland that appears to happen annually. Once promising hockey players who end up on the Leafs are given their walking papers and sent to teams that are truly more competitive or even Stanley Cup contenders. Slowly, they regain their skill and confidence on their new teams, released from the shackles of being a Toronto Maple Leaf and the pressures that accompanies this curse.
Good luck to those traded away. History tends to favour those traded away from the Leafs and allows them to salvage a somewhat decent hockey career elsewhere! Let's hope to see some more of these trades happen over the next couple of weeks right up to trade deadline day on February 28!
Update-February 18:
The exodus continued earlier today when career Leaf, Tomas Kaberle, finally waived his no-trade clause and was sent to the Boston Bruins for both a young prospect player and draft picks.

More weird and wacky iPhone/iPod Touch Apps
This proved to be a very popular topic for a blog entry some weeks ago...so why not do it again!
Here are some current free or paid iPhone/iPod Touch apps currently available that tend to lean toward the weird, unusual or just plain crazy in terms of their purpose or function:
Samba Matchbox
This application was developed for you to prove you can do the samba with your feet and hands.
After all, a match box is not only for you to light candles. Its also a musical instrument.
"A matchbox can also be used to carry those special pills you should be taking if you actually need to download this app!"
Past Life Pro
Find out who you were in your previous life.
"Hopefully you weren't someone who downloaded useless iPhone/iPad apps!"
20 Hour Clock
This application displays an analog and digital clock based on a 20 hour day.
"And there are those who can't even figure out a 24-hour based clock...and now you want them to use a 20 hour clock??? Thinking of a whole new way of making excuses for all of those missed deadlines, appointments, etc."
iWore it Before
iWore it Before is an app to help you recall what you wore on a certain date, at a certain event, or with a certain person.
"Nothing is worse than wearing the same outfit on two non-consecutive Saturdays 35 years apart"
Horse Exercises
Horse Exercises is a great informational starting point for all horse owners. In this app you will learn to stretch your horse from the ground and also on his back to warm him up.
"It's a great warmup before taking your horse to the Horse aerobic studios or Horse hot yoga."

Does NBC Still own Thursday Nights?
Last night (Thursday), the DJ Joe D family settled in on a cold February evening for 3 hours straight of prime-time situation comedy viewing.
With the exception of 30 minutes during the 3 hours, all the shows we watched were the current Thursday evening comedy lineup on NBC. From 8PM to 11PM, NBC currently has 6 sitcoms on in a row including favourites like The Office and 30 Rock!
Starting in January, for the first time in many years...NBC began to show situation comedies in the 10PM-11PM block, which for many years was reserved for drama (with a brief exception early in the 2009-10 season where they had the horrible and controversial Jay Leno show).
We like sitcoms and believe the shows on NBC's Thursday night lineup are some of the best currently. Historically, NBC's Thursday night block of comedies and drama was known as "Must-See TV" with many classic & long time shows residing there, especially starting in the mid-1980's and into the late 1990's!
Below is a chart I found highlighting NBC's Thursday night prime time lineup over the years, starting with the 1980-81 season and detailing the lineup every 5 seasons after that until present day 2011! The "Must See TV" era began between 1980 and 1985; from a ratings perspective, NBC "owned" the evening from the beginning of that era until the early 2000's:
I added the chart as more of a nostalgic trip back to memory lane. Here you can see the dominance of such shows as The Cosby Show, Cheers, Seinfeld, Friends and ER! All long running, highly rated and in most sense of the phrase, classic TV!
You can also see some real duds filling the schedule--trying to take advantage of the rating powerhouse shows that were on before or after them. Who actually remembers Four Kings, Boston Common and, of course, Joey?
A lot of the shows that were big misses during the late 90's and throughout the period 2000 to 2010 resulted from how network tv had reinvented itself as the place to go for reality programming along with the competition from the U.S. cable networks (i.e., HBO, Showtime, etc.).
This era was difficult on traditional network television because for the first time, viewers had more choice and viewing options and NBC was not the only place to be on a Thursday night!
Have a look through the chart and if you want...leave some comments here about your thoughts about how the schedule changed throughout the years and what memories you have about these lineups!
I do like what NBC is doing now with their Thursday nights...especially since most of the rest of their lineup is filled with sub-par reality shows now. I miss the days when Thursday night was truly the night of Must See TV!

Sports Roundup
The Green Bay Packers won the 2011 Superbowl yesterday. The final score of 31-25 doesn't reflect that at one point in the first half, Green Bay led 21-3. The Steelers were the stronger team but just didn't execute well...but it was an entertaining game.
The NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers lost their 24th straight game back on Saturday night. It is an NBA record; it is the first time a team has lost that many games in a row in the same season.
The Cavaliers also own the distinction of a 24 game losing streak over 2 seasons; going back to the end of the 1981-82 season and into the beginning of the 1982-83 season. The Cavaliers play tonight in Dallas where they can set the all-time futility record of 25 losses in a row--either in one season or over 2!
There seem to be some major conflict going on in the Toronto Maple Leafs dressing room between one of the star players and coach Ron Wilson. It has come to light over the last day or so that Leaf player Phil Kessel hasn't been speaking to his coach. He made a public comment yesterday about not feeling he may belong in Toronto because of the conflict and tried to save face today by saying this is where he wants to be!
Coach Wilson publicly commented on Kessel's lack of effort recently including a scoring drought. It is not new news that Wilson is not well liked by his players...a few years back while he was in San Jose and now in Toronto. A recent poll of NHL players indicated that Wilson was the coach they would least like to play for.
Kessel also has his share of issues...he was unhappy with his former team, the Boston Bruins when the Leafs acquired him back in the 2009-10 season for a first round draft pick which turned out to be the second overall draft pick in last year's draft...up and coming star Tyler Seguin. Kessel has not become the superstar in Toronto many had hoped he would become and some of his frustration this week seems to be pointed also at some players on the team as he indicated in his media meet & greet earlier today

Here are some of the 2011 Super Bowl Commercials to be seen
Slowly, some of the 2011 Super Bowl Commercials are being found on the internet. Sometimes these commercials are made out to be the event over and above the actual football game.
These are some of the commercials out there now...they will be broadcast during the game on the U.S. Fox Network feed.
Always a controversy in Canada, where most viewers can get the U.S. feed directly from a Fox affiliate, but if you are a cable or satellite subscriber, these commercials are technically blacked out because these companies are allowed to substitute the Canadian network feed of the game (this year on CTV) over the U.S. station signal resulting in the Canadian commercials being shown instead.
The Canadian feed is basically the Fox feed sent through the Canadian network and includes commercials for Canadian advertisers or network promos. These are limited and repeated numerous times during a 3-4 hour broadcast...also, after commercial breaks, the Canadian networks tend to be late in returning to the Fox feed and you always miss a few seconds of the game!
So here we go with some of the 2011 Superbowl Commercials:
Volkswagen's "Darth Vader Kid":
Commercial for upcoming "Kung Fu Panda 2" movie:
Commercial For HomeAway.com:
This year's Go Daddy ad...that links to the web for an "Internet Only" version:
And finally, those chimps are back in this commercial for CareerBuilder.com:

So what else do you know about these celebrations?
Today (February 2) is Groundhog Day in Canada & the U.S.....and the two primary North American prognosticators, Punxsutawney Phil and Wiarton Willie both did not see their shadows today...so we should have an early spring within the next 6 weeks!
You all know that Groundhog Day is noted more for the unique nature of the tradition rather than being a real bona-fide holiday to celebrate. The tradition, which began as a Pennsylvania German custom in southeastern and central
Like Groundhog Day, here are a few more "days" we like to recognize and celebrate annually but are not real occasions or holidays. I've included an interesting fact or two about each:
Valentine's Day
An annual commemoration held on February 14.
Traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines").
Mother's Day
The modern Mother's Day is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in May as it is in Canada & the U.S. on the 2nd Sunday of that month.
In the United States, Mother's Day remains one of the biggest days for sales of flowers, greeting cards, and the like; it is also the biggest holiday for long-distance telephone calls.
Father's Day
It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in Canada & the U.S.
In recent years, retailers have adapted to the holiday by promoting greeting cards and traditionally male-oriented gifts such as electronics and tools.
Schools and other children's programs commonly have activities to make Father's Day gifts.
Halloween
Halloween is an annual celebration observed on October 31, which commonly includes activities such as trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, carving jack-o'-lanterns, bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.
Halloween is not celebrated in all countries and regions of the world; Mass transatlantic immigration in the 19th century popularized Halloween in North America , and celebration in the United States and Canada has had a significant impact on how the event is observed in other nations, particularly its iconic and commercial elements.
Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.
