As we head toward another spectacular DJ Joe Show, happening live, this Sunday, July 3,starting at 10AM EDT on the Glow Radio (
http://www.theglowradio.com/), we are also heading into another holiday weekend here in Canada.
This Friday, July 1st, is Canada Day...the country's birthday celebration (we are 144 years young this year)!
The holiday is celebrated on the actual day of the week it falls on, which this year happens to be a Friday, making this year's celebration a long weekend...yay!
Some Canadians will be fortunate enough to have an opportunity to celebrate with the British royal newlyweds, William & Kate, who start an extended tour of the country in the next couple of days and will be in the capital, Ottawa, on Canada Day for the traditional celebration that happens each year there.
Since the DJ Joe D family has no plans to travel to Ottawa this year, and since the Royals won't be visiting our town of Toronto, we have decided to spend the Canada Day weekend doing other things!
Friday, I will be attending the Toronto Blue Jays game at Rogers Centre to watch the Philadelphia Phillies as interleague play continues in MLB.
This series is technically a re-scheduling of a series against these two teams that was supposed to happen last season in Toronto, but had to be rescheduled to Philadelphia at the last minute because Toronto was hosting the International G20 Conference at the time and the stadium fell right in the zone that was shut down for security reasons.
The series also marks the homecoming of one of the Blue Jays' all time greatest players, Roy Halladay, who was traded to the Phillies before the beginning of last season. He is scheduled to pitch Saturday...which will make the Rogers Centre a madhouse that day...but for Canada Day, the matchup is fine, there will be crowds...and free t-shirts for the fans!
On Saturday, July 2, we are heading to an area of the city known as The Distillery District (used to be home to the city's many beer/liquor distillery plants back in the day). The purpose of this visit is to experience the travelling Food Truck tour that will be parking there that day. According to the information we have been given, a number of different types of Food Truck, serving a variety of unique dishes, can be found...many of them made famous on the Food Network. We will have a big appetite that day!
Sunday of course is the big live DJ Joe D Show at 10AM EDT on the Glow Radio (replay of last week's show is also on starting at 8AM EDT)! So wherever you are in the world, try to tune in...and enjoy the upcoming weekend!
