As I write this...June 1st, 2012, around 2:50PM EDT, downtown Toronto has been encountered some flooding issues due to the heavy rains we have been having here today...and maybe because of some damaged storm drains.
Specifically, Union Station has been flooded resulting in a closure of the subway station for an indefinite period of time...at least through the evening rush hour today.
Union Station is not only a vital hub for the subway system here but for commuters coming and going from the city...regional transit (GO) as well as regular passenger train service (VIA Rail). And, underground, it is attached to a network of shops, bars, restaurants and office tower via the PATH system...the Royal Bank Plaza, being the closest PATH location to Union Station, has also encountered some flooding.
The heavy rains today here in Toronto seems to have been the main culprit...but due to the rains, it has been reported that storm drains...the sewer system... exceeded its capacity and basically has gone to town on Union Station...yech!
I'll leave you with one of many picture coming in on what is going on down there! Not a fun day!
