Real Reality Shows
You've all heard or watched reality television shows such as Survivor, The Apprentice, Jersey Shore, Dancing with The Stars, etc. The list is endless...I am about to share with you some of the more obscure reality TV shows.
These are all currently on air in the U.S. on independent stations or cable networks. They don't get the high profiles of some of the bigger network shows, but they have each carved out their niche following.
Bad Girls Club (Oxygen)
A reality show that follows seven self-described 'bad girls' as they are forced to live together in a house in LA.
Ghost Adventures (Travel Channel)
Three ghost hunters Zak Bagans, Nick Groff, and Aaron Goodwin set out in search of spirits while armed with nightvision cameras and digital recorders on this paranormal show
Breakout Kings (A&E)
This show is about a selected group of criminals transferred from prison to join an exclusive team to help the U.S. Marshal catch fugitives. Each member of the team has a special trait that helps them find the fugitives. They each still have to stay in jail when they are not being used but it is a minimum security prison, instead of the maximum prison they were each transferred from
Man Vs. Wild (Discovery)
Bear Grylls travels around the globe to find the most dangerous tourist locations and environments, in order to show us how to survive in them.
Scare Tactics (SyFy)
You will get to see what scares the living daylights out of average citizens just like you. The series puts a new spin on the hidden camera idea by featuring pranks inspired by science-fiction and horror films
Hoarding: Buried Alive (TLC)
Goes into homes cluttered and packed by people who are obsessed with saving items in large quantities that most people would discard in the trash.
This list of show is by no means exhaustive. Just goes to show that almost anything can become a reality show today and generate a following. And here in Canada, we have the ultimate reality TV show 24/7--found only on The Rotisserie Channel!

The "Not Enough News To Cover" Story of the day
More and more I get the feeling that there is way too many sources out there to get news stories from but not enough news stories to cover.
With news coming in literally 24/7 via TV, Radio, Internet, Mobile Devices, electronic signage, etc., the game for most sources is to try to a have a unique take on a big story, beat the hell out of a somewhat interesting but small story or come up with their own exclusives.
Well, every so often, I will bring to you a news story that appears to have only hit the wires because of the lack of something to report. We start off today with this story:
Mom booted off bus because of noisy toddler
An Australian woman and her 13-month-old baby were kicked off a public bus because the child was too loud.
A women told reporters she and her daughter were riding the bus home, and the child was making “happy squealing noises” because she was excited. A female bus driver told the woman to quiet her daughter down or they both would have to leave the bus.
The woman tried to quiet her toddler by playing with her and offering her up food
The bus driver was reportedly not convinced by the mother’s efforts and after repeated threats, kicked them off the bus just ahead of their stop
Now this is something many have of us have witnessed (or similar situations) where a mother tries to quiet down a fidgety child in public. But I don't believe this is a newsworthy story that needs to be reported internationally.
There is a lot going on in the world...I think a lot of these news sources need to get a better grasp on what they consider newsworthy! Next you might hear about your neighbour's visit to the dentist on the six o'clock news!

Now With More Staying Power Than the Canadian Government!
Earlier today (March 25), the federal government of Canada, lead by Stephen Harper and his Conservative Party were defeated in the House of Commons by a vote of No-Confidence by the opposition parties, who collectives make up the majority of seats in the House of Commons.
This means Canadians will be going to the polls to elect a new federal government sometime in May.
This also means that the DJ Joe D Show now has more staying power than the defeated Canadian government!
Just putting together this week's show...which starts at 10AM Eastern this upcoming Sunday, March 27 only on The Glow Radio: http://www.theglowradio.com/

Pictures of a Once Great American City...in ruins.
It was reported earlier today that the city of Detroit, Michigan has lost approximately 25% of it's population base in the last 10 years. Given at one time it was the 4th largest city in the U.S. and has been on a steady decline since the late 1960's it shouldn't be surprising.
However, with manufacturing in the U.S. at historic lows since the recession which started in 2008 with no signs of any sustainable recovery soon, it is extra sad that Detroit continues to fall further into decline.
The North American auto industry has been hit hard over the last generation with the biggest blow happening in 2008 when auto giants began declaring bankruptcy. And no where else has this been felt most significantly is in Detroit, the Motor City.
I've seen these picture before, but since the news was released earlier today about Detroit's population decline, the sites where these photos are found have become big hits on all the search engines.
I am posting a few of photos showing what has happened to some of the grandest and most spectacular buildings and architecture in Detroit as a result of years of economic decline. Most of the structures in these pictures were simply abandoned and never torn down. So they sat (some still do) for many years just literally rotting away.
Most of the photos here come from a collection of pictures depicting Detroit's "abandoned" architecture called "The Ruins of Detroit" by Marchand & Meffre Photography:
This one is actually functional--it is the remains of the Michigan Theatre...now used as a parking lot
The photos below are just a random assortment from the collection; for more, you can head over to the Machand & Meffe Photography website:
Michigan Central Station
18th floor dentist cabinet, David Broderick Tower
National Bank of Detroit-Bagley Clifford Office
Melted Clock-Case Technical High School
William Livingstone House

Once Again a Reporter Live On-Air Suffers a Medical Situation
Back last month, I posted a blog entry that included video of a female local CBS reporter in Los Angeles apparently having some sort of medical difficulties live on air:
http://djjoed.blogspot.com/2011/02/reporter-having-tough-time-live-on-air.html
In a remarkable but scary coincidence, an on-air reporter in Toronto also experienced a similar episode just yesterday (March 21), live on air:
Mark McAllister is a report for the Toronto affiliate of Global News. It is incredible how this all played out live on air and how McAllister was able to hand it back off to the news anchor, who herself was quite smooth as this situation all played out.
McAllister and Global Television issued a statement earlier today on the matter. It was health related (what it was was not divulged) and McAllister was examined by a paramedic on scene and will follow up with his own physician.
In the case last month with the female reporter, the issues were tied to a migraine headache related condition and not symptoms of stroke which was first thought.

Preparing the DJ Joe D Show each week
Many of you have asked me what it takes each week to prepare the high quality DJ Joe D Show each week to bring it to air for 2 hours each Sunday at 10AM Eastern on The Glow Radio: http://www.theglowradio.com/
You are in for a bit of a treat today as this blog entry is essentially a behind the scenes look at the machine we call the DJ Joe D Show!
Each week we start off with a meeting of all the creative and executive types to plan out the show:
Next we send off our music staff to collect and organize what we like to call the best music mix on a Sunday morning:
Our sports department is busy all week gathering the sports news you get to hear on our Sunday Morning Sports Report:
You know DJ Whitney has to put in a lot of hours to prepare her weekly feature, the Springsteen Minute:
We scour our vaults for those weekly songs we call the Novelty and Canadian Content Songs of the Week:
And then we meet again to put it all together:
Finally, the whole team gets to the studio and we put the show on the air for you live each Sunday...
There you have it! Hope you join us this Sunday for the show. Another great live one....the DJ Joe D Show...this Sunday, March 20, 2011, 10AM Eastern, only on The Glow Radio: http://theglowradio.com/

Should I get an iPad 2?
I was in the U.S. yesterday (March 16) and got a chance to try out Apple's new iPad 2!
Pretty cool but the store I was in just had the demo and didn't know when they would have some stock in. Would I have bought it if it was in stock??? I don't know.
The 16GB version is the smallest they have and that goes for $499.00 USD (not that the exchange rate makes that much difference anymore). I might wait it out for the RIM Playbook Tablet due out in a couple of months since I am a Blackberry user!
The iPad 2 is released in Canada and internationally on March 25...will I change my mind by then...I know for sure I won't wait in line for it. But let's see how things go!

As Heard on The DJ Joe D Show...
As heard yesterday (March 13) on the "Sunday Morning Sports Report" on the DJ Joe D Show:
Did You Know:
Did you know...
...here are a few notable team name changes in North American professional sports where the team remained in the same city but just changed their name:
In the NBA, the Washington Wizards changed their name in 1997 from the Bullets.
In Major League Baseball…the official name now of the former Anaheim Angels is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Before the start of the 2008 season, the Tampa Bay Rays dropped the word “Devil” from their name.
In the NHL, the most notable recent team name change is also found in Anaheim, where the team is now know as the Anaheim Ducks, shortened from the Disney inspired original name, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks back before the start of the 2006-07 season.
Oddly, you have to go back to the 1960’s in the NFL to find an existing franchise remaining in the same city who changed their team name…in 1963 the New York Titans of the then AFL league became the current New York Jets!
Listen to the Sunday Morning Sports Report each Sunday during the DJ Joe D Show, starting at 10AM Eastern only on The Glow Radio: http://www.theglowradio.com
Georgie Thompson, UK, broadcast journalist and presenter on Sky Sports News

March Break Has Arrived!
In this part of the world...Toronto, Ontario Canada...the annual March Break vacation break has arrived for school aged children...and hopefully their parents as well!
Most of the schools in the region will be off all of next week (March 14 to March 18) and many take this time to travel. The main airport here in Toronto, Pearson International, sees its busiest days of the year during this time...even more traffic than during the Christmas time break.
Where are people headed? Lots go south...Florida, Mexico, the Caribbean...anywhere it's warm. A lot people however, do stay put at home with lots of activities going on geared toward the kids!
We have had a pretty rough winter this year...tougher than ones we've seen over the previous few winters. A lot more snow for sure and even colder temperatures.
I recall the last two winters before this one, in the Toronto area there was absolutely no snow to be seen on the ground from March 1st, the temperature were fairly mild and we didn't any snow again until later in the year, around mid to late November at the earliest!
So we laughed about all those people who headed south for March Break during those last two winters...because we had great weather here and took advantage of that! After this winter...who's laughing now!

Your Suggestions for Future Theme Shows
As mentioned on the DJ Joe D Show (March 6, 2011), we are looking to have a lot more theme shows on a regular basis like the all-Novelty Song show we had a couple of week ago
It was a great success and there are lots of ideas out there for theme shows. So we are asking listerners and blog readers to leave some suggestions for us about what they may want to hear as a theme show in the weeks to come.
Leave us any suggestions you can think of...show about a particular artist, era in music, chart positions (e.g., all number 1 songs) or even a whole theme show around certain words that appear in a song title or lyrics! Anything within reason is welcome. Just leave your suggestions here in the comments section of this blog entry.
Thanks for listening!

I Like This Movie Trailer!
It's for a comedy coming out in the next couple of months called "Bad Teacher" starring Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake
Watch and let me know what you think...did it give away all the good parts or will this actually be a pretty good movie???
P.S. Even though it is a movie trailer, it leaves in all the dirty words and stuff...so don't watch it in front of the kids or the boss!

February ends...
...and the Toronto Maple Leafs actually had a successful month this time around. They are only a handful of points out of potentially making the playoffs this season in the Eastern Conference of the NHL (so are a number of teams as well).
But since the season started, we have been tracking the Leafs performance during the last three games of each month. Although they lost 2 and won only 1, the 2 losses were in either during overtime or a shootout so they managed to gain 1 point in those two losses...4 points out of a possible 6 in those three games. This was their most successful month end record this season!
So here are the results of the last 3 games the Leafs played in February. Let hope the last 3 games of March are all winners and we stop joking about the Leafs making the playoffs, but they actually do!
Thursday February 24: Win-5-4 over Montreal in Montreal
Saturday February 26: Loss-6-5 to Pittsburgh at home (Shootout Loss)
Sunday February 27: Loss-3-2 to Atlanta in Atlanta (Overtime Loss)
