The Big Quiz #2---EXTENDED!
We had posted The Big Quiz #2 on the blog back on April 19th. We were supposed to post the answers on the blog tomorrow
However, we wanted to ensure all who wanted to participate had a chance before we post the answers...so we have extended the deadline for participation.
We will post the answers next Saturday, May 7, 2011, here on the blog. As well, we will be sharing those same answers live on air during the May 8, 2011 broadcast of the DJ Joe D Show on the Glow Radio starting at 10AM Eastern (http://www.theglowradio.com/).
So let's get those thinking caps back on...because you have a few more extra days to play!
This quiz is straightforward: Simply name the Academy Award best picture winners for each year from 1980 to 2011.
You can leave your answers in the comments section of the original entry from April 19--It's Time For The Big Quiz #2" or in this blog entry. Since many people will be participating and can see the answers everyone else leaves...let's make this a cooperative quiz...if you see an answer missing for one of the years...simply add it in!
The objective is to get answers for all the years! So work together. I'll help you out to start by giving you the 2011 winner...of course it was The King's Speech.
So get to it folks...we'll post the answers on the blog on May 7 and read them live on air on the May 8 DJ Joe D Show on The Glow Radio! So that gives you just a little more than one week to get going. Good luck and thanks for participating!

NHL Round 1 Playoffs get interesting
Three of the remaining four Round 1 series (as of Tuesday April 26) go tonight. In 2 of these series, we are down to Game 7 of the best-of-seven and the other is a pivotal Game 6.
Of the Round 1 series that ended already (4 of the series with Detroit, Nashville, San Jose and Washington moving on to Round 2), the real story was that of Nashville winning their first ever playoff series in team history. They have been to Round 1 numerous times in their short existence, but never past until they took care of the Anaheim Ducks this time around!
Of the games going tonight...we may be witness to one of the biggest playoff collapses in the history of the NHL. The Vancouver Canucks, who were the regular season President's Cup winners (team with highest number of standings points) were ranked #1 in the Western Conference and led 3 games to none in their Round 1 series against the #8 ranked Chicago Black Hawks.
Fast forward to tonight...yes we are going to Game Seven...Chicago has made a huge comeback...or have the Canucks simply collapsed under the pressure?
The focus of attention has been on their goalie, Roberto Luongo, who has been yanked from games and held out from others just to be put back in cold! The media is saying it is his game to win or lose tonight. The outcome will be interpreted by history as either a once in a lifetime comeback by Chicago or a once in a lifetime collapse by Vancouver.
Buffalo and Philadelphia also play Game 7 tonight; Montreal tries to avoid elimination at home against Boston in Game 6 and tomorrow is a Game 7 in the Pittsburgh/Tampa Bay series. Things are very interesting now!

From the archives of "Did You Know", the weekly trivia feature heard only on The Sunday Morning Sports Report with DJ MSox on The DJ Joe D Show, each Sunday starting @ 10AM Eastern on The Glow Radio: http://www.theglowradio.com

Did you know that some of the current NHL teams had their franchises start in other cities?
The Phoenix Coyotes, started life as the Winnipeg Jets. Phoenix got the team beginning in the 1996-97 season. The Jets, by the way, entered the NHL from the defunct WHA league starting in the 1979-80
That was also the same season that the Quebec Nordiques entered the NHL. You know that team better today as the Colorado Avalanche— since the start of the 1995-96 season!
Colorado also previously had another NHL Team, the Colorado Rockies, that played there from the 1976-77 season to the 1981-82 season. The team had been previously known as the Kansas City Scouts…and when they moved from Denver for the start of the 1982-83 season they became the New Jersey Devils.
A team that had started during the NHL expansion season of 1967-68, the Oakland or California Golden Seals, eventually became the Cleveland Barons starting with the 1976-77 season. That team only lasted two seasons before they merged with the struggling Minnesota North Stars who then became the current day Dallas Stars starting in the 1992-93 season.
And of course, you cannot forget that the current franchise, the Carolina Hurricanes were previously the New England or Hartford Whalers, another team that came over to the NHL in 1979 from the WHA. The Whalers morphed into the Hurricanes at the start of the 1997-98 season!
And the Calgary Flames were the NHL’s Atlanta Flames until the end of the 1979-80 season.

It's Time For The Big Quiz #2!
A number of months ago, we posted our first big quiz...and it was tough. Participants had to name the home sports venues of all the teams in each of the four big professional sports leagues in North America...NHL, NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball (MLB).
A lot of you accepted the challenge and the quiz was really successful. Now we want you to participate again...in our next big quiz.
Let's make this one entertainment themed: Simply name the Academy Award best picture winners for each year from 1980 to 2011.
Again, as with the previous quiz, you can leave your answers in the comments section of this blog entry.
So get to it folks...we'll post the answers on the blog on April 30! So that gives you just a little less than two weeks to get going. Good luck and thanks for participating!

Vaughan Rangers Bantam Red Select Hockey Team are 2010-11 NYHL Tier 1 Champions!
The title says it all...the boys pulled out a big 5-2 victory over the Unionville Jets yesterday afternoon (April 17) at Downsview Arena to sweep the series and take home the hardware.
Congratulations to the players, coaches, management and parents. It was a great season and a well-deserved championship!
Speaking of the hockey hardware, that will be presented to the team in a couple of weeks during the annual "All Star Game" festivities where the Rangers take on the rest of the best from the other Tier 1 teams.

And Spring Brings With It...
Some unexpected expenses...perfect timing especially after just buying a brand new car!
On a positive note first...we were able to sell our trusty 12-year Saturn for a tidy sum (remember folks, the car was 12 years old...and a Saturn).
But now...we are dealing with nesting birds getting into the nooks and crannies of the DJ Joe D family compound...luckily it's early in the season that they haven't completed those nests and laid any eggs, so the situation can be dealt with in a safe and humane manner. But that does cost a lot of money!
Slowly starting to see what this year's snowy, cold and long winter has done to the lawn & landscaping...again...not optimal conditions and it will have to involve some investment in both time and money!
That's enough right now...as April turns into May...we may find some more things around the house that need tending too...let's hope not...but it is a spring ritual!

NHL Playoffs Get Underway on Wednesday
So a couple of days off while those NHL teams who are moving on to the "second season" transition into playoff mode.
In the Western Conference, it literally went down to the final game of the regular season to determine all 8 teams that were entering the playoffs.
A Dallas win in regulation would have vaulted them past the Chicago Black Hawks into the 8th position...Chicago lost earlier in the day...but Dallas didn't have enough steam and Chicago is in, maybe to defend last year's Stanley Cup championship. They have it tough in the first round against first place Vancouver, winner of this year's President Cup for the team with the most regular season standing points.
In the Eastern Conference, Boston and Montreal are one of the matchups in Round 1. The rivalry between these two teams is much more storied than the traditional Toronto/Montreal matchups. This season brings in an added edge as it was during a game against Boston last month that Boston's Zdeno Chara laid down a brutal hit on the Canadiens Max Pacioretty, ending his season and possibly his career.
Hockey is such a religion in Montreal that the Federal Party Leaders political debate in French was moved back a day so it wouldn't conflict with Game 1 of the Montreal/Boston series.
Hockey fans will get there information about the rest of the series in Round 1 from various other sources. We may talk more about these NHL playoffs over the next few weeks!

A New Addition!
A brand new addition here at the DJ Joe D household...we bought a new car!
After years of searching...we gave in and purchased our first new car in a long time. We decided on a wonderful driving machine...in our opinion...a 2011 Nissan Altima SL!
I am including a couple pictures and some specs below
Folding outside mirrors with turn signal indicators
Leather seating surfaces
Power driver’s seat lumbar support
Leather-wrapped shift knob
Bose® audio system with 109 mm (4.3") colour display
XM® Satellite Radio
USB connection port for iPod® interface
Speed-sensitive volume control
Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System
Dual-zone Automatic Climate Control (ACC)
RearView Monitor
HomeLink universal garage-door opener
Auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass
Centre console rear passenger vents
Illuminated centre console
Textured metallic-tone trim (Charcoal interior)
Xtronic CVT® (Continuously Variable Transmission) with manual mode

Power sliding glass moonroof with tilt feature
8-way power adjustable driver’s seat
Heated front seats
Leather-wrapped steering wheel with steering-wheel-mounted audio controls
Front-passenger window one-touch auto-down/up and anti-pinch feature
Key-operated front windows up/down
Remote keyless front windows down
Dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors with sun visor extenders
Trunk side net
Automatic on/off headlights
Dual body-colour power heated outside mirrors
Dual exhaust with single chrome-tip finishers
Nissan Intelligent Key® with Push Button Ignition
Air conditioning with in-cabin microfilter
Rear passenger floor vents
Power windows with driver one-touch auto-down/up and anti-pinch feature
Power door locks with auto-locking feature
Remote keyless entry with trunk release
Cruise control with steering-wheel-mounted controls

It's a lot of car for the money! We are very excited...we pick it up in a couple of days.
Unfortunately, that means we have to say goodbye to one of our long time friends:
Anybody need a 12 year old Saturn???
