Three of the remaining four Round 1 series (as of Tuesday April 26) go tonight. In 2 of these series, we are down to Game 7 of the best-of-seven and the other is a pivotal Game 6.
Of the Round 1 series that ended already (4 of the series with Detroit, Nashville, San Jose and Washington moving on to Round 2), the real story was that of Nashville winning their first ever playoff series in team history. They have been to Round 1 numerous times in their short existence, but never past until they took care of the Anaheim Ducks this time around!
Of the games going tonight...we may be witness to one of the biggest playoff collapses in the history of the NHL. The Vancouver Canucks, who were the regular season President's Cup winners (team with highest number of standings points) were ranked #1 in the Western Conference and led 3 games to none in their Round 1 series against the #8 ranked Chicago Black Hawks.
Fast forward to tonight...yes we are going to Game Seven...Chicago has made a huge comeback...or have the Canucks simply collapsed under the pressure?
The focus of attention has been on their goalie, Roberto Luongo, who has been yanked from games and held out from others just to be put back in cold! The media is saying it is his game to win or lose tonight. The outcome will be interpreted by history as either a once in a lifetime comeback by Chicago or a once in a lifetime collapse by Vancouver.
Buffalo and Philadelphia also play Game 7 tonight; Montreal tries to avoid elimination at home against Boston in Game 6 and tomorrow is a Game 7 in the Pittsburgh/Tampa Bay series. Things are very interesting now!
